ParrotANAFI400x275Parrot, a Paris-based drone manufacturer, has announced that its ANAFA Ai is the first drone to use 4G as its main data link between the drone and the operator. The drone will be available in the second half of 2021 through its enterprise partners and other drone reseller networks.

The company said users will no longer experience transmission limitations due to the drone’s 4G connectivity, enabling precise control at any distance. For flights beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS), the drone remains connected, even behind obstacles, the company said.

The ANAFI Ai embeds a Secure Element in the drone and in its Skycontroller 4, with an encrypted link between the drone and the end user’s phone. Parrot said the Secure Element protects both the integrity of the software and the privacy of data transferred.

Additional features of the ANAFI Ai include:

  • An obstacle-avoidance system that detects obstacles in all directions, using stereo cameras to sense objects and automatically avoid them;
  • A 48 megapixel main camera with a stabilized 4K 60 frames per second HDR10 camera to capture finely detailed aerial images and smooth video footage;
  • An open-source piloting application;
  • A software development kit to execute custom code in the ANAFI Ai drone during the flight, with access to all flight sensors.

Founded in 1994 by Henri Seydoux, Parrot is the world’s second largest consumer drone maker. The company said it now seeks to set new standards for drones at work, using advanced AI, autonomous flight, best-in-class imaging, photogrammetry accuracy and reliable 4G connectivity. The company aims to serve three primary vertical markets: agriculture; 3D mapping, surveying and inspection; and defense and security.
