YITOA MEMS MirrorIC 400x275Japan’s YITOA Micro Technology Corporation has announced the development of the MEMS Mirror IC for use in automotive lidar applications. Samples are expected to begin shipping by the end of this month.

The solid-state lidar using MEMS Mirror is expected to be one of the best ways to realize the lidar function, YITOA said. The system is aiming for higher reliability, smaller form factor and lower cost than mechanical rotating lidar systems. Under development since 2011, the second generation (CG0006AR) has been developed by the company’s own technology and equipment. It is also developing new MEMS IC with smaller dimensions and a smaller mirror diameter for AR Smart Glass, heads-up display (HUD), and pico-size projectors.

The new model features an electromagnetic MEMS Mirror for automotive lidar usage, with a mirror diameter of 4mmφ. It is dual axis (x and y) with a 60-degree by 30-degree field of view, and measuring 24 mm by 22 mm by 6.6 mm. Angular and temperature sensors are integrated with the device.
