Volocopter400x275Germany’s Volocopter, which is developing urban air mobility platforms, announced it has raised €200 million ($241.5 million) in an oversubscribed Series D funding round. The company has now raised more than €322 million ($388 million) in total, giving it extra capital to bring its VoloCity, a battery-powered air taxi for cities, to certification and to launch its initial commercial routes.

Skydio400x275U.S. drone manufacturer Skydio has announced it raised $170 million in Series D funding, bringing the total amount raised to more than $340 million (with a $1 billion valuation). The company said it will further accelerate product development and global sales expansion to support rapidly growing demand for its autonomous drone solutions.

 

SkySapience400x275COMSovereign Holding Corp., a U.S.-based developer of 4G LTE and advanced 5G communications systems, has announced the acquisition of Israel-based Sky Sapience, a developer of field tethered aerial rotorcraft platforms for defense, homeland security and commercial markets. The $12.7 million purchase price consists of $2.7 million in cash and 2.55 million shares of common stock.

BerkshireGrey400x275Berkshire Grey, which develops integrated artificial intelligence and robotics solutions designed for e-commerce, retail replenishment and logistics companies, has entered into a definitive agreement with Revolution Acceleration Acquisition Corp (RAAC), a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) to create a publicly listed robotics and automation solutions company. The company estimates a post-transaction equity value of up to $2.7 billion.

FANUC worker cobot400x275FANUC America and Rockwell Automation have formed a coalition aimed to accelerate work and learning apprenticeship programs designed to upskill current and future workers for jobs in advanced manufacturing, robotics and automation. 

FutureAcres Carry400x275A new startup called Future Acres announced it has launched to bring sustainable agricultural robotics to the farming industry in order to optimize workforce efficiency and safety. The company also announced raising $3 million in seed capital via equity crowdfunding site SeedInvest.

PerroneRobotics TONY400x275Business incubator and investment group CapStone Holdings has announced a $10 million equity investment in Perrone Robotics, which is developing fully autonomous vehicle systems. A portion of the investment will be used to establish an advanced autonomous vehicle testing facility at the American Center for Mobility in Southeast Michigan.

LocusRobots400x275Locus Robotics has announced raising $150 million in Series E funding, led by Tiger Global Management and BOND. The round builds on support from existing investors, including Scale Venture Partners and Prologis Ventures. The new investment brings the autonomous mobile robot company’s valuation to $1 billion.

Recogni400x275Recogni, which develops an AI vision cognition system for autonomous vehicles, has announced raising $48.9 million in a Series B financing round, led by WRVI Capital. The company said the funding will help bring its perception platform to market and expand its engineering and go-to-market teams.

kim povlsen UniversalRobots400x275Teradyne, Inc., which owns Universal Robots and several other robotics companies, has announced Kim Povlsen has been named the new president of Universal Robots. Povlsen will begin in the new role on March 1, 2021.

InCubedIT400x275Verizon has announced an agreement to acquire Austria-based Incubed IT, which creates a software platform that provides autonomous navigation tools to administer, manage and optimize mixed fleets of robots in industrial settings.

Brain Tennant T380 400x275San Diego-based Brain Corp, which develops artificial intelligence software for robots, has announced record growth in 2020 as global retailers ramped up adoption of robotic floor scrubbers and other autonomous solutions because of the global pandemic.

PlusAutoTrucks400x275Plus, formerly known as Plus.AI, has announced completing a $200 million funding round, led by new investors Guotai Junan International, CPE, and Wanxiang International Investment. Existing investors, including Full Truck Alliance, also participated.

MightyStudio400x275Mighty Buildings, a construction company that uses technologies such as 3D printing, robotics, and automation to create affordable and sustainable homes, announced raising $40 million in Series B funding. The Oakland, Calif.-based company said it will use the new funding to accelerate growth and expand its team.
