WovenPlanet400x275Woven Planet Holdings, a subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corporation, has agreed to acquire Level 5, the self-driving division of Lyft, one of the largest ride-hailing companies in the world. The acquisition marks the first major deal for the newly established Woven Planet. Lyft will receive approximately $550 million in cash, with $200 million paid upfront, and $350 million in payments over a five-year period.

 

AMPRoboticsPET400x275AMP Robotics, which develops artificial intelligence, robotics and infrastructure for the waste industry, has deployed six of its AI-guided robotic sorting systems with Evergreen, one of the nation’s largest recyclers of PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles at its Ohio processing facility. Evergreen is a subsidiary of Greenbridge, formerly Polychem, a manufacturer of polyester and polypropylene products serving the food and beverage, consumer packaged goods, and industrial industries since 1974.

Despite uncertainty in the automotive space and the COVID-19 pandemic, rising demand from industries such as pharmaceuticals, food & beverage, and electrical and electronics are expected to propel growth over the next five years.

The funding will accelerate the development and deployment of the company’s RoboFS demonstration center, located in Indianapolis.

BerkshireGrey400x275SoftBank Robotics and SoftBank Logistics have announced a joint partnership with Berkshire Grey to offer an advanced third-party logistics service for eCommerce fulfillment. The SB Logistics’ 3PL offering uses Berkshire Grey’s Intelligent Enterprise Robotics solutions that autonomously pick, carefully place, and pack customer orders to best meet the extremely high standards in the Japanese market, the companies said in a statement.

VicariousSurgical400x275Vicarious Surgical, a robotics company that combines robotics with virtual reality, has announced a definitive business combination agreement with D8 Holdings, a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC). The transaction values the company at an enterprise value of $1.1 billion, and is expected to provide more than $425 million in cash with a fully committed $115 million PIPE, priced at $10 per share. The combined company will operate as Vicarious Surgical Inc., and will be listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol RBOT.

 

CanvasDrywallRobot400x275Construction robotics startup Canvas has announced it raised a $24 million Series B funding round, led by Menlo Ventures. The company said it plans to use the funds to accelerate plans to transform construction work by bringing robotics into the built environment, starting with drywall finishing.

MX3D Funding400x275Amsterdam-based MX3D has announced raising €2.25 ($2.69 million U.S.) in new funding, which will be used to launch its M1 robotic metal additive manufacturing system. The investments will also speed the development of MetalXL, a software and control system that turns existing welding robots into industrial-grade 3D metal printers.

Sarcos merger400x275Sarcos Robotics, which develops robots and exoskeleton systems that augment humans for productivity and safety, has announced it will become publicly listed through a merger transaction with Rotor Acquisition Corp., a publicly traded special purpose acquisition company (SPAC). The transaction is expected to provide the company with up to $496 million of proceeds before expenses to fund business plans, facilitate potential bolt-on acquisitions, and enhance capabilities.

AutoStoreCube400x275Norway’s AutoStore, which develops global robotics and software for material handling, has announced that SoftBank will acquire 40% of AutoStore from funds affiliated with Thomas H. Lee Partners, L.P. and EQT Private Equity, among other shareholders. THL will continue to be AutoStore’s majority shareholder and THL, SoftBank and EQT will each have representatives on the AutoStore Board of Directors.

PlusTruck400x275Plus (formerly Plus.ai) has announced it added $220 million in new financing, which will enable it to further expand its global operations and commercial deployment plans across the U.S., China, Europe and other parts of Asia. The developer of self-driving truck technology said it is in the final stages of certifying its PlusDrive for commercial operation in China.

The company also announced a $6.1 million seed funding round as part of its announcement.

Tompkins IAMRobotics400x275Tompkins Robotics and IAM Robotics have teamed up to create a new robotic application that automates the exit process on a unit sortation order fulfillment system. The new system, called xChange, uses a robot to remove completed order containers from a sortation process and place empty order containers in position.

ForwardX Warehouse Funding400x275China’s ForwardX Robotics, which develops AI-powered autonomous mobile robots for warehousing and manufacturing environments, has announced raising more than $38 million in a Series B funding round. Since its founding in 2016, ForwardX has raised close to $74 million in venture capital.
